Active Legislative Programs

The IAWP Legislative Program plays a dual role of being a watchdog by observing and informing members of pending legislation and a grassroots channel to Congress by enabling members to project a strong collective voice on important matters.

Proactive legislation and policy efforts were one of the reasons IAWP was founded in 1913. The Association’s efforts help set up nationwide, ethical standards for the provisions of employment related services by local, state and federal governments. The Association organized a Legislative Committee to review and to keep members informed on pertinent bills in Congress that could affect Employment Security Programs. If the Committee determines that pending legislation needs involvement by the Association and its membership, an action plan is formulated. The Legislative Committee is charged with public relation efforts in the interest of the Employment Security Program in the United States. It has been instrumental in building partnerships to restore and to protect Employment Security Funding. The Committee works with a Legislative Liaison in Washington DC who assists the Association in its efforts to be represented on Capital Hill and to keep members aware of legislation dealing with workforce initiatives.
